No. 25 Charleston Is Upset

Ed Dotson had 18 points and Ray Abellard added 16 at Orlando, Fla., as Central Florida defeated No. 25 College of Charleston, 82-64, Thursday night for its first victory against a ranked team.

Thomas Mobley and Zeke Johnson scored 15 points each for Charleston (6-1), which scored only four points over the final six minutes of the first half.

Central Florida (5-2) closed the half with an 11-2 run for a 47-26 lead and wasn’t seriously challenged by the Cougars.

“Basically they played, and we didn’t,” Charleston’s Marcus Johnson said.

“They came and stepped up, and we didn’t. When you’re coming at 50% and they’re coming at 100%, it’s hard to catch up.”

It is the most points given up by the Cougars since an 84-63 loss at Georgia on Nov. 16, 1998.

Kendra Wecker’s 31 points helped No. 7 Kansas State (9-1) stave off an upset by Wisconsin Green Bay (6-2) with an 80-75 victory at Green Bay, Wis.... Amber Jacobs had 18 points for No. 21 Boston College (5-1) in an 86-48 victory over Northeastern (2-5) at Boston.
