Five lawsuits filed over Orange County’s aborted plans to build an airport at the closed El Toro Marine base have been settled, the parties announced Friday.

Two suits challenged the county’s environmental reviews of the airport plan; two others protested the spending of $8 million for a public information campaign.

The final lawsuit questioned El Toro’s inclusion in regional transportation plans.

The Southern California Assn. of Governments will drop the airfield from its documents. SCAG’s plans have long called for an airport at El Toro to help fill the demand for air passenger service in the region.

The move comes nine months after voters rejected plans to build an airport at El Toro, deciding instead to build a park on the closed Marine base.

The Board of Supervisors spent a decade trying to convert the base into a commercial airport.

Cities around the base fought against it, spending millions on legal bills.
