Belt Tightening Doesn’t Go With Hawaiian Shirts
Re “A Little R&R; in Maui Precedes the Budget Battle,” Dec. 9:
I don’t know what bothered me most about our lawmakers’ trip. First, no state funds should be used to pay for this trip when they are cutting budgets, especially when just last week the governor asked for all agencies to cut unnecessary spending.
Second, is there no place in California where this meeting could have taken place, where Californians would be employed and dollars spent would have stayed in this state?
How do we ask others to visit our state, when our lawmakers don’t believe in what our state has to offer?
Another case where lawmakers didn’t think, and these are the same people we are trusting our budget to.
