Santa Barbara Loses to Brigham Young

Travis Hansen scored 19 points and Brigham Young beat UC Santa Barbara, 69-56, on Saturday at Provo, Utah, to extend the nation’s longest home-court winning streak to 40 games.

Mark Bigelow had 11 points and made successive three-pointers to start a 15-4 run by BYU in the second half, giving the Cougars (8-1) a 10-point lead. Santa Barbara (3-5) never pulled closer than seven as BYU made 13 of 15 free throws in the final 10 minutes.

Branduinn Fullove led Santa Barbara with 17 points. Nick Jones had 15 points and seven rebounds.

Hansen scored 14 points in the second half, when he made 10 of 12 free throws. He also finished with a game-high seven rebounds and five assists.

BYU held the Gauchos to 37% shooting.

Ricky Bower, Terry Nashif and Jared Jensen each scored nine points for the Cougars.

BYU last lost at the Marriott Center on Feb. 17, 2000, against New Mexico.

San Diego 73, UC Riverside 62 -- Jason Blair scored 20 of his 24 points in the first half and the Toreros (6-3) won at San Diego.

Blair made seven of 10 shots as San Diego took a 36-22 halftime lead.

The Toreros shot 52.2% from the floor in the first half, and Riverside (1-4) shot only 25.7%. Riverside missed 22 of its first 26 shots and went more than eight minutes in one stretch without a field goal.

Jason Keep scored 17 points for San Diego, all in the second half.

Nate Carter led Riverside with 21 points despite not playing the first half.

Montana 75, Loyola Marymount 68 -- After the Lions had cut a 16-point deficit to two with nine minutes to play, Montana (5-7) scored 13 of the next 16 points at Loyola Marymount.

Charles Brown scored 21 of his 23 points in the second half for Loyola (5-6), which lost its third consecutive game.

David Bell, who sat out much of the second half with foul trouble, had 16 points and four assists for Montana, which upset Stanford, 70-68, on Monday.

The Lions were playing their fourth game in eight days.

“This game was my responsibility,” Loyola Coach Steve Aggers said. “Our team was a very tired group of basketball players. We’re emotionally drained and physically tired, and that’s on us.”

Cal State Fullerton 62, Sacramento State 54 -- Ralphy Holmes had 21 points and 11 rebounds at Sacramento, and the Titans (2-6) ended a losing streak at four games

Despite playing without second-leading scorer Pape Sow, who sat out because of a sore ankle, the Titans controlled the game from the opening minutes. They shot 54.8% from the field and led for the final 38 minutes of the game.

Tony Champion led the Hornets (4-5) with 13 points before fouling out with 1:56 remaining in the game.

Fullerton, which built its largest lead, 50-36, with 12:20 to play in the second half, also received 20 points and 10 rebounds from Anthony Bolton.

The Hornets moved as close as 28-27 with four minutes remaining in the first half before the Titans ran off 10 unanswered points.
