Hospital Staff Caring for Unwanted Newborn Boy
The staff at Miller Children’s Hospital is caring for a newborn boy left Christmas Eve by his father under the “safe haven” law, a hospital official said Saturday.
The law allows a mother or any adult to anonymously leave unwanted babies at any hospital within 72 hours of birth without the threat of prosecution.
The boy was dropped off at nearby Long Beach Memorial Medical Center about 7 p.m. Tuesday, officials said. The baby will be turned over to the county Department of Children and Family Services on Monday.
