Desalination Plan Considered for Bay

The Marin Municipal Water District is considering a proposal to remove salt from San Pablo Bay to provide as much as 10 million gallons of water a day -- enough to supply 30,000 homes a year.
The plant and pipelines could cost $100 million, and some experts say the cost of electricity to power the plant would be prohibitive.
But board President Jared Huffman insisted that desalination is a viable process that is rapidly dropping in cost.
