Islanders Rally to Beat Blues

Brad Isbister scored midway through the third period and the New York Islanders rallied from three one-goal deficits to defeat the St. Louis Blues, 4-3, Tuesday night at Uniondale, N.Y.

Standing 10 feet from the goal, Isbister tipped Mariusz Czerkawski’s pass from the left boards past Brent Johnson at 10:21.

Garth Snow earned the victory, the 98th of his career, with 17 saves in a 40-minute relief of Chris Osgood. The Blues have lost four of five.

Buffalo 2, Boston 2--Rhett Warrener scored a goal off the skate of Bruin Gord Murphy at 4:30 of the third period, giving the Sabres a tie at Boston.

The Sabres matched their season-high four-game unbeaten streak and ended a three-game skid against the Bruins.

Montreal 1, New Jersey 0--Jose Theodore had 19 saves and Jan Bulis’ goal gave the Canadiens their first victory at East Rutherford, N.J., since 1993, a streak of 15 games.

It was New Jersey’s first loss in three games since Kevin Constantine replaced former Canadien great Larry Robinson as coach.

Theodore posted his fifth shutout this season and the 13th of his career.

Atlanta 3, Edmonton 2--Rookie Ilya Kovalchuk’s team-leading 27th goal lifted the Thrashers at Atlanta.

Goalie Pasi Nurminen won in his first NHL start, outdueling fellow Finnish Olympian Jussi Markkanen.

Toronto 3, Minnesota 1--Mats Sundin scored his 28th and 29th goals, both in the third period, and had an assist at Toronto to give the Maple Leafs their third consecutive victory.

Pittsburgh 3, Carolina 3--Andrew Ference scored four minutes into the third period, Johan Hedberg stopped 37 shots and the Penguins handed Carolina its fourth consecutive home tie.
