Teen in Critical Condition After Shooting
A 15-year-old boy shot in the head when gunmen opened fire at a teenager’s birthday party in North Hills remained in critical condition Saturday.
The youth was one of eight wounded in the shooting, which occurred about 9:45 p.m. Friday in an apartment carport area in the 15000 block of Nordhoff Street, police said.
About 50 youths, most between 13 and 16 years old, were at the party when as many as three males walked up and opened fire. Police said the attack may have been gang-related. No arrests had been made.
Rico Caguingin said his 14-year-old daughter and her friends told him the gunmen fired at least two blasts from a shotgun, then used an assault weapon.
“Actually, it could have been much worse,” said Caguingin, who picked up his daughter shortly after the shooting. “I just thank God nothing happened to my daughter or niece.”
Seven of the wounded were taken to area hospitals and five were released by Saturday. The critically injured teen and another youth, who was in fair condition, remained at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.
