Marvin Lewis will have a new job next season, after all.

Two days after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers backed out of making him their coach, Lewis on Sunday agreed to become defensive coordinator of the Washington Redskins.

The announcement came one day after Lewis said he would remain defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens, a post he has held since the team moved from Cleveland before the 1996 season.

Although terms of Lewis’ deal with the Redskins were not disclosed, his contract is believed to be around $850,000 plus incentives, which, if met, would make him the highest-paid assistant in the NFL.

“Sometimes, money talks louder than words, and this is an opportunity Marvin felt he had to take,” Raven owner Art Modell said in a statement. “I’m disappointed that whoever misled us about Marvin staying did that to the Ravens.”

Lewis is partially to blame. He told the Ravens on Saturday that he would stay with the team.

“I’m tired of putting my family through this,” he said. “My family is happy with the area.”

His contract with the Ravens had expired, and he was expected to discuss terms of a new deal with Modell over the next couple of weeks.

Baltimore will make receivers coach Mike Nolan the team’s defensive coordinator.

The move will be formally announced today in a news conference, team spokesman Kevin Byrne said.

New England Patriot running back Kevin Faulk was jailed after police in Lafayette, La., said he became verbally abusive when told not to move a traffic barricade.

Faulk disputes the charges, attorney Jason Robideaux said. He said Faulk’s passenger moved a barricade and Faulk’s wife became belligerent while Faulk behaved.

“[Faulk] told his wife to call me, and for her to be quiet and go home,” Robideaux said.

Faulk was free on $450 bond.

He was arrested about 3:30 a.m. Saturday in a parking lot, which was partly barricaded.

Police said Faulk removed a barricade so he could drive off and when a policewoman stopped him, Faulk allegedly used “vulgar and inappropriate language.”

The Chicago Bears and defensive coordinator Greg Blache agreed on a three-year contract.
