Victor Manuel Celis Jr. pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges that he killed a 16-year-old Kennedy High School student as the teenager left the campus.

Celis, 18, was charged in Superior Court in San Fernando with murder and allegations that a rifle was used and that it was a gang shooting.

“I don’t think [Celis] was involved with what happened,” said Donald J. Calabria, Celis’ attorney. “He is not a gang member.”

Prosecutors say Ricardo Floyd was walking out of the Granada Hills school on Sept. 13 when Celis and 16-year-old Hector Guadalupe Ramirez drove up beside Floyd and shot him.
