Dickau Takes Overat Finish for Gonzaga

Dan Dickau hit a three-point basket with 3.6 seconds remaining to lead No. 22 Gonzaga to its ninth consecutive victory, 83-80, over Saint Joseph’s on Monday night at Philadelphia.

Dickau shot nine for 18 from the field, including five for eight from three-point range, for 25 points. He scored Gonzaga’s last nine points, including a 21-footer from the right wing over Saint Joseph’s Na’im Crenshaw.

Crenshaw’s desperation jumper from 30 feet at the buzzer banged off the rim as Saint Joseph’s (6-4) lost its third in a row.

Zach Gourde had 16 points and Blake Stepp 15, all on three-pointers, for Gonzaga (9-0).

Marvin O’Connor, Saint Joseph’s top scorer averaging 19.8 points per game, seemed hampered by his sprained left toe and scored only eight points and was two of 13 from the field.

No. 11 Boston College 81, Seton Hall 66--Kenny Walls scored 20 points and Troy Bell had 18 as the Eagles (12-1) opened defense of their Big East Conference title by defeating the Pirates (7-6) at East Rutherford, N.J.

Ryan Sidney, the other member of the Eagles’ perimeter trio, had 15 points.

No. 18 Alabama 76, Florida A&M; 52--Kenny Walker scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Crimson Tide (11-2) at Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Alabama charged to a 17-5 lead with Walker scoring nine points and led, 42-20, at halftime. Rod Grizzard scored 16 and Terrance Meade added 12.

Demarcus Wilkins scored 14 points for Florida A&M; (1-9).

Oregon State 78, Lehigh 55--J.S. Nash scored a career-high 18 points as the Beavers (8-4) defeated the Mountain Hawks (3-9) at Corvallis, Ore., to become the first Pacific 10 Conference school to reach 1,500 victories and the 10th Division I program to reach the milestone.

Chris Owens, Texas’ leading scorer, will miss the rest of the season because of a torn ligament in his right knee.

The fifth-year senior forward, who averaged 15.8 points, was injured in the first half of Texas’ 71-61 loss to Utah on Saturday.

Owens was catching a pass under the basket when he was slightly undercut and landed awkwardly.

No. 1 Connecticut 97, Wright State 39--Tamika Williams and Sue Bird scored 20 points apiece and the Huskies (14-0) scored 30 in a row in the first half to rout the Raiders (2-10) at Fairborn, Ohio.
