Tehran Denies Report of Links to Bin Laden
Iran has denied a U.S. report that Tehran may have had contacts with members of Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda network.
“Iran’s clear position on the phenomenon of terrorism, the Taliban and the Al Qaeda group indisputably proves that such claims and reports are baseless and false,” the daily Iran News quoted Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi as saying.
Asefi was reacting to a New York Times report that emissaries for Bin Laden had contacted Iranian agents in the mid-1990s in an effort to form an anti-U.S. alliance.
