Cornheads Lose the Fashion Award Too
The Nebraska fans answered weakly to what Wisconsin Cheeseheads have given the sports world, with their three-cornered foam-rubber chunks of cheese that also hold three cans of beer. Several Cornhusker fans walked around the Rose Bowl with foam cornhusks pointing up and out from their heads. Stupid-looking and no place to store your beer.
“Anyone who owns one is part of the Cornhead nation,” said Bryan Altman, a Nebraska student. “They’re not standard issue, but we’re everywhere and our numbers are growing every day.”
Altman said he had to put his Cornhead through X-ray machines at three airports on his way to Southern California.
“It keeps your head warm in Lincoln,” he said of the Husker Hat. “It gets a little sweaty out here. That’s why I shaved my head.”
Final headgear score: Badgers 1, Cornhuskers 0.
