‘Plan Colombia’

Re “ ‘Plan Colombia’ Leads the U.S. Into the Heart of Darkness,” Commentary, Dec. 30: According to a recent “Frontline” broadcast on PBS, the United States is spending just under $1 billion a year attempting to keep track of the world’s nuclear weapons and material. Many published reports claim the war on drugs is being waged at a cost of about $30 billion a year.

In light of the events of 9/11, could someone with an IQ over 70 (that evidently would eliminate 98% of the folks in Washington) please explain to me why keeping marijuana and cocaine out of our country is so much more important than keeping nukes and nuclear material out?
