Robitaille Ties Hull With 610th Goal

Luc Robitaille reached a scoring milestone and Kris Draper’s goal 2:26 into overtime completed a comeback from a three-goal, third-period deficit that lifted the Red Wings over the Vancouver Canucks, 5-4, Wednesday night at Detroit.

Robitaille scored the 610th goal of his career, tying Bobby Hull for the NHL record for most goals by a left wing.

“It’s pretty special. He’s one of the all-time great players,” Robitaille said of Bobby Hull. “And with his son on my team, it makes it even more special.”

Draper put in the rebound of a Kirk Maltby shot for the winner.

Trailing, 4-1, going into the third period, Detroit got third-period goals from Brendan Shanahan, rookie Pavel Datsyuk and Brett Hull, who sent the game to overtime with his 662nd career goal with 6:30 left in regulation.

Colorado 7, Chicago 3--Chris Drury had two goals and an assist, and Colorado used a four-goal flurry in the second period at Denver.

The Avalanche ended Chicago’s six-game winning streak.

Colorado’s second line of Drury, Ville Nieminen and Steven Reinprecht scored three consecutive goals in a span of 5:34.

New Jersey 5, Calgary 1--Scott Niedermayer scored two goals at East Rutherford, N.J., and Jean-Francoise Damphouse made 23 saves in his first NHL victory.

Petr Sykora, Sergei Nemchinov and Jason Arnott also scored.

The outburst helped the Devils end a run of five one-goal games, a franchise record.

Washington 6, Columbus 3--Sergei Gonchar scored twice at Washington and the Capitals ended a three-game losing streak.

Stephen Peat, Adam Oates, Jaromir Jagr and Colin Forbes scored for the Capitals.

Tyler Wright had a goal and two assists for Columbus.

Dallas 3, Florida 2--Mike Modano had two goals and Jamie Langenbrunner scored with 2:36 left in regulation for Dallas at Sunrise, Fla.

Ed Belfour made 16 saves and improved to 8-1-1 against Florida.

Atlanta 4, Ottawa 3--Ilya Kovalchuk scored with 2:02 left in overtime at Atlanta and the Thrashers ended a five-game skid.

Bob Corkum and Yannick Tremblay scored for Atlanta.

Martin Havlat had a goal and an assist for the Senators.

San Jose 6, Phoenix 5--Teemu Selanne scored his first goal in 11 games and Adam Graves scored twice for San Jose at Phoenix.

Marco Sturm, Mike Ricci and Matt Bradley scored for the Sharks, who won for the fourth time in their last five games.

Michal Handzus had two goals and an assist for Phoenix, which dropped its third in a row.

Phoenix had a season-high 42 shots against Evgeni Nabokov.
