Advice from former NFL quarterback Erik Kramer prompted Ryan McCann to transfer from UCLA to Tennessee Chattanooga, a Division I-AA team that was 3-8 last season.

“He said I can’t wait around any longer, that I have to play,” McCann said.

The redshirt junior took private lessons from Kramer over the winter and believes he can play professionally.

After talking to UCLA coaches, McCann did not believe he would get a chance to start next season.

McCann had to transfer to a school below the Division I level to be eligible next season because he used his redshirt year in 1998.

In three seasons at UCLA, McCann was 100 of 201 for 1,124 yards and four touchdowns.
