Special Prosecutor Needed for Enron

Share

Re “U.S. Launches a Criminal Probe of Enron,” Jan. 10: To have the Bush Justice Department investigate Enron is a classic case of the fox being hired to guard the chickens. What the country deserves is nothing less than a special prosecutor. What did President Bush and Vice President Cheney know and when did they know it?

Paul Conrad’s tweaking of the Enron logo (Commentary, Jan. 10) is crude, crass, obscene and unsuitable for publication in a family newspaper. I take that back--considering Enron’s infamous financial contempt for the California energy market and what Enron officials are doing for stockholders now that Enron has gone bankrupt, the logo as revised by Conrad couldn’t be a more fitting gesture.

Where are the Republicans who spent six years investigating the Clintons, et al.? They sure are quiet now that Bush and his friends’ hands got caught in the cookie jar. No talk show hosts are screaming about the loss of morality, values or thievery. No calls for a special prosecutor. With over 70% of Enron’s money going to Republicans, these will be interesting days.
