Winter Games a Victim of Midwest Balmy Climes

Cursing what has been a mild winter for Minnesota, the world’s largest ice-fishing contest has been postponed, snowmobilers are bemoaning a lack of snow and skiers have no place to roam.

Temperatures in Minneapolis-St. Paul have yet to dip below zero, setting a record, and the state’s famed lakes don’t have enough ice to support vehicles.

And the Crow Wing County sheriff told the Brainerd Jaycees this week they would have to postpone their ice-fishing contest, which attracts around 15,000 anglers.
