From Times Staff Reports

More than 35,000 fans are expected to attend a double-header of soccer games today at the Rose Bowl, and police said spectators should expect tight security.

Mexico will play El Salvador at 1 p.m., followed by the United States against South Korea about 3 p.m. Fans will be subjected to the same level of scrutiny maintained during the recent college football championship at the Rose Bowl, said Police Lt. Lisa Perrine.

Spectators and their belongings will be checked, she said. Cameras, bottles, backpacks, horns and anything that could be used as a weapon will not be allowed in.

People attending the games should arrive about 1 1/2 hours early, she said.
