Washington’s Upset Bid Fails Against Stanford

Lindsey Yamasaki scored seven of her 19 points in the final three minutes to help No. 4 Stanford hold off a late Washington run in a 75-67 victory in a Pacific 10 Conference women’s basketball game Saturday at Seattle.

Sebnem Kimyacioglu made three three-point shots and scored 14 points for the Cardinal (18-1, 8-0 Pac-10). Stanford, which got 13 points from Cori Enghusen and 10 from Kelley Suminski, is off to its best start since finishing the 1996-97 regular season 30-1.

Loree Payne scored 19 points, Andrea Lalum had 17 and Giuliana Mendiola added 11 for Washington (10-8, 5-4), which had not lost a conference home game in more than a year.

Washington, which went on a late 13-2 run to make it close, shot just 31.9% from the field.

Payne made two three-pointers to pull the Huskies to within 68-63 with 2:11 to play, but Washington got no closer.

No. 1 Connecticut 93, Villanova 60--Asjha Jones scored 19 points and Swin Cash had 17 for the Huskies, who remained undefeated with the Big East romp at Villanova.

Connecticut (20-0, 6-0 Big East) never struggled, using a 25-8 run to open the second half to put away the Wildcats.

Trish Juhline scored 21, including four three-pointers, to lead Villanova (10-6, 4-2).

No. 3 Oklahoma 89, No. 12 Texas 69--Stacey Dales scored 21 points and LaNeishea Caufield added 19 for the Sooners, who outscored the Longhorns, 64-20, in the backcourt in a Big 12 Conference game in Austin.

Guards Rosalind Ross and Dionnah Jackson added 10 points each for the Sooners (15-2, 5-1 Big 12), who were coming off a loss at Iowa State that ended their 18-game, regular-season winning streak in conference play.

Stacy Stephens had 20 points and 12 rebounds Texas (13-3, 5-1), which had won six in a row.

Oklahoma St. 68, No. 9 Kansas St. 60--The Cowboys went on a 9-3 scoring run in the final 1:32 of the game to upset the Jayhawks and end their 14-game winning streak in a Big 12 game at Stillwater, Okla.

Trisha Skibbe had 23 points and nine rebounds and Chantoya Hawkins added 18 for Oklahoma State (10-8, 2-3).

Nicole Ohlde had 17 points and Kristin Rethman scored 15 for the Wildcats (17-2, 5-1 Big 12).

No. 13 Baylor 80, Missouri 59--Sheila Lambert finished with 27 points and seven assists to lead the Bears in a Big 12 rout at Columbia, Mo.

Danielle Crockrom had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Baylor (13-3, 4-1), which ended the Tigers’ 12-game home winning streak. Kerensa Barr led Missouri (12-4, 3-2) with 18 points. Natalie Bright added 12.

No. 15 Texas Tech 78, No. 14 Iowa St. 66--The Red Raiders burned the Cyclones’ zone defense for a school-record 12 three-pointers in a Big 12 victory at Ames, Iowa.

Amber Tarr made five three-pointers and led Texas Tech (11-5, 3-3 Big 12) with 21 points. Natalie Ritchie added 17 points, including four three-point baskets.

Angie Welle had 26 points and 15 rebounds for Iowa State (14-4, 2-4).

Ashley Augspurger scored 18 points, all on three-pointers, and Joy Jenkins banked in a three-pointer with 41 seconds left as No. 20 Colorado State (15-3, 4-0) won, 62-57, over host Nevada Las Vegas (14-3, 2-2) in a Mountain West game....
