Lewis Calls Tyson a Liar

Share

Heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis questioned whether he would go through with a fight against Mike Tyson in a statement issued after the Nevada State Athletic Commission denied Tyson a license.

Lewis also accused Tyson of lying in the hearing when Tyson said he didn’t bite Lewis in their brawl Jan. 22 at a New York news conference.

“The fact is,” Lewis said in the statement, “Mike Tyson bit through my trousers and took a significant piece of flesh out of my thigh. I was particularly disturbed by the fact that he went before the commission today and did not tell the truth by denying what he knows occurred.

“I have made no decision yet about the possibility of fighting Mike Tyson in another jurisdiction that may license him, because I want to consider carefully the reasons expressed by the commission in denying the license.

“In addition, I am still consulting with my attorneys as to the legal consequences should I declare that I will not go forward with the bout.”

After the hearing, Tyson called out Lewis.

“I think Lennox is a coward,” Tyson said. “I’m going to fight him any time I see him in the streets.”
