Glaus Back in Lineup, Says Ankle Is ‘Fine’

Share

Third baseman Troy Glaus returned to the lineup Friday, playing on what he called a slight sprained ankle.

Glaus was pulled from the game in the sixth inning Thursday after aggravating the injury. He injured the ankle colliding into the advertising panel on the fence behind the dugout while chasing a pop fly Wednesday.

“I’m fine,” Glaus said. “I’m fine. It was [Manager Mike Scioscia’s] call. I had every intention of staying in the game.”

Scioscia said he didn’t want to take any chances. “Troy felt a little twinge and rather than risk him re-injuring it we felt we should be cautious,” he said.

Glaus, who had the ankle tightly wrapped before Friday’s game against Tampa Bay, looked healthy in the field. He lunged to his left to snag a line drive in the second inning.

Reliever Al Levine, recovering from a sore right shoulder, threw off level ground Thursday and is scheduled for another workout today. He will begin throwing off the mound during the All-Star break, Scioscia said.

Levine is expected to make at least one rehabilitation start in the minor leagues before rejoining the Angels.

“There are things you need to find out that you can’t do in a game situation here,” Scioscia said.

Scioscia said that Levine would likely be out beyond July 12, when he is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list.
