Hair Samples Ordered in Doctor Slaying Case

From Times Wire Reports

A judge in Buffalo ordered the retrieval of hair, blood, saliva and handwriting samples from a man awaiting trial for the 1998 slaying of a doctor who provided abortions.

The judge also granted a prosecution request that James Kopp, known in militant antiabortion circles as “Atomic Dog,” should submit to a police lineup.

The defense argued that a lineup would be prejudicial because Kopp, who’s already been fingered by witnesses in a photo-array exhibit, is far too widely known after a 2 1/2-year international manhunt.
