Cherry Makes a Key Move to Plush ‘Electroclash’ Gig

Cherry, the Friday night dance club that ushered in L.A.’s glam rock revival, is moving to one of the hottest clubs on the Sunset Strip. On Aug. 16, Cherry makes its debut at West Hollywood’s Key Club. Promoters Bryan Rabin and Mike Messex plan to pump up the volume with an “electroclash lounge” in the downstairs Plush room and DJs Messex and Joseph Brooks spinning everything from current rock (the Strokes, the Hives, the White Stripes) to New York’s electric edge (Peaches, Miss Kittin).

Rabin says he plans to take the dance club’s theatrical elements up a notch too. To wit, Cherry’s male and female go-go dancers are already practicing their moves on the Key Club’s aerial equipment. Look out below!

And now, a word from the parking fairy: On Friday nights, you can park at 9000 Sunset Blvd. for five bucks, the same fee guests paid at Cherry’s old home, A.D., which plans to move its current Thursday night dance club to Fridays.... For those who can’t get enough of “Sex and the City,” the Key Club on Sundays is offering martinis, manicures and make-overs, climaxing with a screening of the beloved HBO series. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is located in Plush, the downstairs VIP lounge (be sure to make guest-list inquiries in advance to [310] 274-5800).... Promoter Macafrica’s Industry Tuesday at Moomba in WeHo has turned into a weekly treat. Pianist-movie star Jeff Goldblum performs at 9 p.m., and he’s one cool cat. The jazzy guy always makes an effort to chat with guests after each performance.

So that super-cute spinderella DJ Panic (a.k.a Meredith Chinn) is tripping the light fantastic at Backstage in Beverly Hills on Thursday.... And we hear that Muhammad Ali’s been caught chillin’ at R. J.’s in Beverly Hills. Now there’s a champ to holla at.... Wednesday night’s super-cool experimental DJ hub Twine, located in the Knitting Factory’s AlterKnit room, is presenting a bash for international techno superstar John Tejada’s Palette Records on Wednesday. Apparently, Tejada’s Detroit style is so smooth, Twine’s coming undone.... And speaking of the Knitting Factory, I’m so totally counting the days till Camper Van Beethoven’s appearance there on Aug. 29. The radical Santa Cruz band rocked the ‘80s.
