4 Teens Sentenced in U.S. Prosecutor’s Slaying

Four teenagers were given prison sentences of at least 35 years for their part in the slaying of a federal prosecutor from Chicago shot during a holdup in Columbia in August.
Assistant U.S. Atty. Michael Messer, 49, was in town for a training session at the University of South Carolina.
Cichey L. Mayo, 18, was sentenced to 47 years behind bars, and Willie James Murphy, 17, got 43 years on charges including murder and armed robbery. Bryan Murray and Abram Braveboy received 35 years for the armed robbery and other crimes that night.
