Jose Rijo is out of the Cincinnati Reds’ rotation again, and it’s unclear if he’ll ever get back in it.

The 37-year-old pitcher, who overcame five major elbow operations, will go back in the bullpen for a while, Manager Bob Boone said Tuesday. He gave no indication whether it’s a long-term move.

“I don’t know the answer to that,” Boone said.

Instead of Rijo starting Saturday in Anaheim, right-hander Carlos Almanzar will make his first major league start.
