Pujols, Martinez Power Cardinals

Albert Pujols hit a grand slam in the sixth inning, and Tino Martinez had a three-run homer in the eighth to lead Woody Williams and the St. Louis Cardinals over the Seattle Mariners, 7-4, Tuesday night at Seattle.

Williams (3-2) ended a personal two-game losing streak, limiting the Mariners to one run and four hits in seven innings. He struck out five and walked three. Steve Kline and Dave Veres finished the seven-hitter.

Trailing 1-0, the Cardinals loaded the bases against James Baldwin (4-6) in the sixth on singles by Eli Marrero and Fernando Vina and an intentional walk to J.D. Drew.

Pujols hit a 2-0 pitch over the center-field fence for his 14th homer of the season and second career slam.

Oakland 11, Milwaukee 2--Barry Zito (8-2) won his seventh in a row, giving up two hits over eight innings as the Athletics won at Oakland.

For the second consecutive night, Jermaine Dye drove in four runs, including a solo home run, and the A’s extended their winning streak to a season-high six games.

Colorado 3, Boston 1--Jason Jennings (8-2) pitched three-hit ball for seven scoreless innings at Boston to win his seventh consecutive decision, and Larry Walker hit a two-run double for the Rockies to break a scoreless tie in the eighth inning.

The Rockies ended a four-game losing streak and won for the second time in nine games.

San Francisco 9, Toronto 2--Damon Minor, J.T. Snow and Yorvit Torrealba hit solo home runs off Brandon Lyon (1-4) in the fifth inning at Toronto as the Giants ended the Blue Jays’ five-game winning streak.

Rich Aurilia hit a two-run shot for the Giants, and Reggie Sanders had a two-run double. Barry Bonds went two for three with two singles and two walks.

Kansas City 6, Florida 0--Joe Randa homered off Michael Tejera (1-1) and drove in a season-high four runs as the Royals won a five-inning game that was called after a 70-minute rain delay at Kansas City, Mo.

Florida’s Luis Castillo singled in the third to extend his hitting streak to 27 games, the longest in the majors since 2000.

Cleveland 5, Philadelphia 1--Bartolo Colon took a shutout into the ninth inning and Milton Bradley hit a three-run homer off Randy Wolf (3-5) at Cleveland as the Indians ended the Phillies’ five-game winning streak.

Cincinnati 8, Texas 5--Adam Dunn hit a pair of two-run homers, the first putting the Reds ahead to stay in their victory at Arlington, Texas.

Chicago 10, New York 8--Paul Konerko homered twice, Frank Thomas hit a three-run shot and Todd Ritchie (4-8) got his first victory in over a month to lead the White Sox over the Mets at Chicago.

Detroit 2, Montreal 1--Shane Halter homered in a two-run seventh inning at Detroit as the Tigers won their second in a row after losing 10 of 11.

Baltimore 6, San Diego 5--Tony Batista homered leading off the 10th inning to give the Orioles the victory at Baltimore.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Chicago 9, Houston 5--Todd Hundley, who started the game hitting .159, went three for four with three runs batted in to lead the Cubs to a victory over the Astros at Houston.
