In another sign of heightened sectarian tensions, attackers hurled a gasoline bomb at a Roman Catholic elementary school in west Belfast, police said.

Police said the bomb was thrown through a window of a classroom at the Holy Rosary School, near Ormeau Road, scene of recent clashes between Protestants and Catholics. The classroom suffered severe smoke and water damage and the windows of four other classrooms were broken, a spokesman said. Nobody was injured.

In a separate incident Tuesday night, Catholics in north Belfast reported that five shots were fired in the direction of children playing soccer in the street.
