Championship Parade Is Friday

All that’s left for the Lakers now is their championship celebration and victory parade on Friday.

Festivities will begin at 11:07 a.m. at City Hall, where Laker and city officials will speak. The parade, scheduled to begin at 11:30, will go from City Hall, west on Second to Figueroa and continue down to Staples Center. The celebration there is scheduled to begin at 12:50.

The parade will be led by a police drill team brigade, followed by two fire trucks carrying the Laker band. Grand marshal Chick Hearn and his wife, Marge, will be riding in a convertible, followed by four convertibles carrying the Laker girls.

Laker players, coaches, staff members and city officials will follow in 11 double-decker buses. A car carrying Mayor James Hahn will follow the buses.

Most L.A. over-the-air television stations, plus Fox Sports Net, will cover the parade. The coverage on Laker flagship stations Channel 9 and Fox Sports Net will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Robert Horry is considering moving his family to Los Angeles for larger portions of the regular season, a decision that could make him much more likely to play to the end of his contract.

Horry has two seasons remaining on his deal with the Lakers, both for $5.3 million per, the second at the team’s option.

Asked Wednesday if there were any doubt he would return next season, he said, “Maybe,” an ambiguity based on, “A little bit of this, a little bit of that. Family.”

Horry’s 9-year-old daughter, Ashlyn, has a neurological disorder similar to cerebral palsy. The family lives in Houston, where it has become close to doctors and therapists who have known Ashlyn since birth.

“I’d like to take some pressure off the wife,” Horry said of Keva. “I mean, she would never say anything. She knows this keeps me sane and brings me a little bit of joy.”

Tex Winter, Phil Jackson’s assistant since 1990, said he likely would retire. Winter, who turned 80 in February, has coached the last 55 years.... Horry, who has played for five championship teams, is the first to play for two teams to sweep the Finals. In 1995, his Houston Rockets swept the Orlando Magic. Shaquille O’Neal and Brian Shaw, members of that Magic team, become the fourth and fifth players to both sweep and be swept. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jamaal Wilkes and Mark McNamara are the others.... The Lakers shot 50.5% in the series, the first team to shoot 50% or better in the Finals since the 1992 Chicago Bulls.
