1 Officer Killed, 3 Hurt as Police Cars Collide

One police officer was killed and three others were injured, one critically, when two patrol cars collided late Wednesday as they sped to the scene of an arrest.
Witnesses told investigators the cars entered an intersection in downtown’s Mission District with roof lights on and sirens blaring just after 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The cars were en route to assist in the arrest of a man who allegedly attacked his girlfriend with a cleaver.
Police are considering seeking charges against him in the fatal crash as well.
