On Day After, Martin Takes It All Back

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. --The New Jersey Nets’ off-season will have neither a championship nor controversy.

One day after the Lakers ended the Nets’ NBA title hopes in a four-game sweep, the controversy that arose after the final game was also put to rest.

New Jersey forward Kenyon Martin acknowledged he made a mistake questioning the heart of some of his teammates.

“I said some things last night that I probably shouldn’t have said,” Martin said Thursday. “I was a little disappointed, so the emotions got over me a little bit. But we had a great year. We had a good run. It’s been fun.”

Martin never identified who he was talking about, but it was obvious it was fellow forward Keith Van Horn. Martin told people to look at the statistics, and Van Horn scored seven points in the final game.

“I don’t look at it as a big deal,” Van Horn said of the criticism.

Net Coach Byron Scott and General Manager Rod Thorn spoke to Martin on Thursday.

“I think he was way out of line,” Thorn said.
