Appreciating Torrey Pines’ Craftsman Style

I enjoyed reading about the Lodge at Torrey Pines (“Evoking the Past by Design,” May 19), with its Craftsman construction.

During a vacation in 1997, we visited the Stickley Furniture factory in Manlius, N.Y., where we were fortunate to receive tours of the modern factory and the not-yet-open Stickley Museum, in one of the old factory buildings toward town. They showed us much of the classic, original Stickley furniture and also its evolution into some newer pieces. The lobby and the dining room beautifully represented the Arts and Crafts style, and the complex was furnished with Stickley pieces. The dining room (where we had a fine dinner) was furnished in the Mission style, and I was delighted that our room was furnished in the 18th century Cherry Valley style.

Even if it has no connection with the Craftsman Inn, I am pleased that the Lodge at Torrey Pines has received such glowing notices.
