AT SACRAMENTO
Oregon vs. Wake Forest: The Ducks beat the Demon Deacons, 67-66, in the first round of the Rainbow Classic on Dec. 28, 1999. Wake Forest started five seniors in beating Pepperdine, 83-74, and all five played against Oregon two years ago. In the only other meeting between the schools, Oregon beat Wake Forest, 76-58, in 1967. Today’s winner, though, advances to Madison, Wis., for the Sweet 16.

AT ST. LOUIS
Kansas vs. Stanford: By pushing top-seeded Kansas to the final minute in the first round, 16th-seeded Holy Cross punctured the Jayhawks’ aura of superiority. That has given No. 8 Stanford confidence heading into today’s second-round game, and the Jayhawks’ vulnerability appears to be increasing. Star guard Kirk Hinrich, who severely sprained his left ankle against Holy Cross, might not play against Stanford. “It feels a lot better,” said Hinrich, who underwent treatment Friday and did not practice. Coach Roy Williams said he would make a game-time decision on Hinrich after seeing him in warmups today.
