Suspect’s Recklessness Caused Injuries

Share

Your March 19 editorial criticized LAPD officers for initiating a “high-speed” pursuit for a traffic violation. The pursuing officers lost the suspect’s car, probably because they were sensible enough to not drive recklessly, and were not following the car when its driver drove into the victims. It was the suspect driver’s reckless actions that caused the Holocaust survivors’ injuries, not the cops.

Not one word of criticism of the suspect’s actions by the victims’ daughter was reported by The Times. Man, what a thankless job to be a cop in L.A. The Police Department should issue those suction-cup, bobbing, waving-hand devices to its officers to put in their windows. Only then will The Times and the ACLU be assured that officers keep their blinders on, minding their own business, all the while giving the appearance of really giving a damn about what’s going on outside their police cruisers. To answer your editorial’s question: Yes, this chase followed a common-sense pursuit policy.
