Robert Fraisse, superintendent of the Hueneme Elementary School District, is the top choice to take the helm of the Conejo Valley Unified School District, Conejo officials say.

Conejo Valley officials will visit Hueneme schools Thursday and plan to vote on the matter April 9.

Fraisse, 51, took over the 8,000-student Hueneme district in 1997 after serving as assistant superintendent in the Las Virgenes Unified School District.

Fraisse would replace former Supt. Jerry Gross, who left the 21,000-student district in July to head a larger school system in Orange County.
