Freshman Trevor Bell singled to right field with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Bryan Phipps from second base for Crescenta Valley in a 1-0 victory over Arcadia in a Pacific League game Friday night at Verdugo Park in Glendale.

The win moved the Falcons (10-1, 5-0), ranked sixth by The Times, into first place ahead of two-time defending league champion Arcadia (9-2, 4-1).

Kris Krise (3-1) pitched a one-hitter for Crescenta Valley, striking out five and allowing only a leadoff triple in the fifth by Nolan Bruyninckx. Krise retired eight in a row to close the game.

“Me and Trevor [Bell] are like the one-two punch,” Krise said. “This is a big step forward for us. We have been looking forward to this game for a whole year.”

Bell doubled in the first inning but was one of six Falcon baserunners stranded in the first six innings. Crescenta Valley had the bases loaded with one out in the fourth inning but PJ Rousey popped out and Phipps flied out.
