‘Monty’: Full or Empty?

The review by Paul Brownfield of “The Full Monty” (“They’re Disrobing and Disarming,” April 26) was mean-spirited and seemed to give any praise with great reluctance.

I thought that this was the most entertaining production I have seen recently. The audience was laughing and shouting and fully involved with the actors. What more could one ask of any evening in the theater?

Paul Brownfield’s review of “The Full Monty” was dismayingly and disturbingly generous, and I almost gagged when he declared that, despite its faults, it was “nevertheless difficult to resist in the end.”

Please! Except for the Pavlovian shrieks that swept the Ahmanson whenever any of the male characters stripped, I found the response to the songs rarely more than polite, although even that was more than they deserved.
