* Engineering and consulting firm Keith Cos. Inc. in Costa Mesa reported net income of $1.44 million, or 19 cents a share, for the first quarter, a slight rise over last year’s first-quarter earnings of $1.37 million, or 24 cents a share. The decrease in per-share earnings resulted mainly from a secondary offering last May that boosted shares by a third. Revenue grew 39% to $25.9 million.
* SM&A; Corp., a Newport Beach management consulting company, reported a first-quarter net loss of $1.3 million, or 6 cents a share, which included a one-time charge of $2.5 million for early repayment of all long-term debt. The net loss for the year-earlier period was $881,000, or 5 cents a share. Revenue rose 5% to $12.6 million.
* Irvine Sensors Corp., a Costa Mesa maker of high-density electronics, reported a narrower loss of $1.5 million, or 28 cents a share, for its fiscal first quarter from $5.5 million, or $2.35 a share, for a similar 13-week period last year. Revenue fell 12% to $2.3 million.
