Ryan Jensen had an idea he would pitch early Saturday. What happened after was a surprise.

Jensen helped the San Francisco Giants take a combined no-hitter into the eighth inning before beating the Cincinnati Reds, 3-0, Saturday at San Francisco.

“I didn’t feel like I had the kind of stuff where I thought I could get everybody out, but it was the best stuff I had all season,” Jensen said.

Barry Bonds homered for the 400th time in a San Francisco uniform as the Giants won their third in a row.

Jensen (2-2) took over from Jason Schmidt with two out in the first inning and carried a no-hitter into the eighth. Jason LaRue broke up the bid with a solid single into left field.

“I’m just glad we had R.J. strong in the bullpen,” Giant Manager Dusty Baker said. “He was our minuteman today. We had him on alert after Jason warmed up in the bullpen. I knew Jason wasn’t right.”

Bonds established yet another major league standard when he hit his home run. He became the first player ever to hit 400 for one team and 100 for another. Bonds hit 176 home runs with the Pittsburgh Pirates before signing with the Giants as a free agent after the 1992 season.

San Diego 3, Pittsburgh 0--Kevin Jarvis came off the disabled list to strike out eight in 51/3 scoreless innings at San Diego and Ryan Klesko hit his 200th homer.

The Pirates, who’ve scored the fewest runs in the majors, were shut out for the third time in five games.

Jarvis (2-3) was sidelined with a strained elbow and hadn’t pitched since April 17.

Arizona 6, Montreal 5--Reserve catcher Rod Barajas, a .167 hitter playing in his 11th game, hit a game-winning infield single in the 11th inning at Phoenix.

Steve Finley, who led off the inning with a single off Graeme Lloyd (0-2), scored from third on Barajas’ stinging grounder, which caused third baseman Fernando Tatis to stumble and fall after fielding it.

Milwaukee 6, Florida 4--Ben Sheets overcame a shaky start to win for the first time since opening day and Richie Sexson drove in three runs at Milwaukee.

Sheets (2-3) ended a losing streak at three and Milwaukee won for only the second time in 11 games.

Houston 3, New York 1--Carlos Hernandez held the Mets to four hits over seven innings to lead the Astros at Houston.

Hernandez (3-0) tied his career high with eight strikeouts and walked three, and gave up one earned run.

Houston took a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Craig Biggio was hit by a pitch and scored on Brad Ausmus’ triple. Jeff Bagwell followed with a sacrifice fly to score Ausmus.

Philadelphia 6, Colorado 5--Marlon Anderson tied his career high with four RBIs and Doug Glanville hit a tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the sixth inning at Philadelphia.

Jimmy Rollins went four for four with two triples, a double and two runs scored for the Phillies, who handed the Rockies their second consecutive loss after a six-game win streak under new Manager Clint Hurdle.

Arizona right-hander Todd Stottlemyre, unable to bounce back between regular turns in the rotation, was put on the 15-day disabled list.

In a corresponding move, the Diamondbacks recalled left-handed reliever Greg Swindell from a rehabilitation assignment with triple-A Tucson and activated him from the 15-day disabled list.
