8pm Jazz

Guitarist Russell Malone has long been considered a major jazz talent, and was a vital component of Diana Krall’s trio for several years. Some say he can do just about anything he wants with the guitar and do it with superb craftsmanship and a whimsical sense of humor, but he’s yet to establish himself as a prominent solo recording artist. Now at center stage, Malone, with pianist Martin Bejerano, bassist Gerald Cannon and drummer E.J. Strickland, does two shows per night through Sunday at the Jazz Bakery.

Russell Malone, Jazz Bakery, 3233 Helms Ave., Culver City, 8 and 9:30 p.m. Also nightly through Sunday, 8 and 9:30 p.m. $25. (310) 271-9039.

Mikel Erentxun’s old band, Duncan Dhu, had a taste for the American rock of Elvis and the Everly Brothers, but in his solo work the Spanish singer leans toward London, with the Smiths and Morrissey exerting a strong presence on his alt-Latin-rock.
