Streaking Angels Heard but Not Seen

Share

The Times today [May 15] referred to the best team in baseball over the last 17 games as the “rampaging Angels.” And rampaging is exactly what many exhilarated and dedicated fans of the club do as they are forced to gather around crackling transistor radios in order to catch the Angel road games.

How does a team build a strong fan base when it goes into virtual exile every time it leaves town? Every successful major league franchise televises away games. It is not a coincidence that these same teams have enough loyal fans who populate the home ballpark upon their team’s return to outnumber cheering fans of the opponent.

The two things go hand-in-glove.
