A Tustin teen was in a coma Monday after overdosing on the popular drug Ecstasy on her prom night, authorities said.
Police could not confirm the name of the 18-year-old Foothill High School student, who they said lost consciousness about 5:40 a.m. Sunday at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Santa Ana.
“Apparently she told somebody that she had taken Ecstasy earlier in the evening,” said Sgt. Gene McManus, a spokesman for the Santa Ana Police Department.
“She became sick, went unconscious and her friends called police,” he said.
The young woman was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where she was reported comatose and in serious condition late Monday night, McManus said.
Friends said she had gone to the prom Saturday night at Joe’s Garage in Tustin.
“It was like any other school dance,” said Daniel Morrison, 18, who also attended. “I’m sure she was sober there. They had lots of security before you went in--you had to shake hands with the principal.”
Monday at school, Morrison said, there was little discussion of the incident. “They should definitely make a big deal out of it,” he said.
