Microsoft Reported in Talks With SEC

Associated Press

Microsoft Corp. reportedly is negotiating with the Securities and Exchange Commission to settle allegations that the software giant misrepresented its financial performance.

Rather than impose fines, the SEC probably will bring civil charges that Microsoft failed to keep accurate books, the Wall Street Journal reported.

A common resolution in such cases is for a company to promise to follow SEC rules in the future. The SEC would neither confirm nor deny the report.
