Giguere Ends Slump in Style

The Mighty Ducks finally got the type of performance they were expecting from goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

Giguere, who has wobbled at times recently, had his best game of the season Thursday, stopping 26 of 27 shots in the Ducks’ 4-1 victory over the Boston Bruins. He needed to be especially sharp with the Bruins on the power play 10 of the first 30 minutes.

“This is a team that shoots the puck a lot,” Giguere, who had a 3.09 goals-against average before Thursday, said of Boston. “I knew I had to be ready for that first period. Tonight was a positive thing for me. I have to keep rolling.

“Unfortunately, I can think on this game until midnight and then start worrying about the next one.”

Giguere’s best save came with the game scoreless, when he managed to slide across the crease to deny Marty McInnis on a first-period power play.

Defenseman Chris O’Sullivan, who had an assist Thursday, was sent to minor league Cincinnati, and defenseman Pavel Trnka will be activated.

Defenseman Fredrik Olausson, a healthy scratch the last two games, will probably return to the lineup.

The Ducks also sent left wing Mike Brown to Cincinnati for a conditioning assignment. He will play two games and rejoin the Ducks Sunday.
