State OKs Investigation of $70-Million Blaze
Although the cause of August’s fire at the Santana Row shopping complex remains unknown, the state fire marshal has concluded that the investigation was thorough.
The report comes after questions were raised about why the Fire Department spurned the assistance of highly trained federal fire investigators even though local investigators were overwhelmed.
Two weeks after the fire, 15 police officers were added to the inquiry to help interview more than 400 witnesses.
The fire caused more than $70 million in damage and sparked other blazes that burned 36 homes.
