Victory Might Be in ‘Stars

Share

Unchain The Stars will try to break her maiden for a second time when she takes on eight other fillies and mares in tonight’s final race at Hollywood Park, a six-furlong dash for $25,000 claimers.

A 4-year-old daughter of Fastness, Unchain The Stars crossed the wire first on Aug. 11 at Del Mar, but the win was taken away due to a technicality -- the gray filly wasn’t bumped up enough in price after being claimed for $25,000 three weeks earlier.

Owned by Dorothy Boone and trained by Rafael Becerra, Unchain The Stars will be favored as Hollywood Park has its second and final Friday night card of the fall meet.

Albert G -- who broke his maiden in a highly rated race at Santa Anita on Oct. 5 -- runs in the sixth, a $43,000 allowance at seven furlongs. Owned by Frankfurt Stable and trained by Neil Drysdale, the 3-year-old Devil’s Bag colt won by a head. Corey Nakatani will ride the $120,000 yearling purchase.

His seven rivals include Big Apple -- a $2-million yearling buy who has a win in five starts for the Thoroughbred Corp. and trainer Bob Baffert -- Primerica, Spacelink and Smile N Wildcat.

Race of the day: The seventh at Hollywood Park is a wide-open turf affair for older California breds. Onetrickphoney is one of the main contenders and he has improved since being switched to the grass by trainer Pat Gallagher.

Who’s hot: Tom Roberts. The trainer won with four of his first 10 runners at Golden Gate Fields. He has five starters on today’s card.

Who’s not: Roberto Gonzalez and Ryan Morris. The two jockeys began Golden Gate a combined 0 for 30.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Pavlosk and Severo in the second, Prime Candidate and Manly Valentine in the third and Kelli’s Ransom, Chez La Femme and Laker Girl in the fourth.
