Thousand Oaks Man Killed in Army Exercise

A 27-year-old Thousand Oaks man was identified as one of two soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division who served in Afghanistan killed in a training accident in Louisiana.

Cpl. Jason D. Fisher of Thousand Oaks and Pfc. Joseph P. Favorito III, 20, of Higgins Lake, Mich., were run over by a 63-ton M-1 Abrams tank during predawn training exercises Thursday at Ft. Polk in Louisiana, according to a statement released by Ft. Campbell.

The two were among 400 soldiers from Ft. Campbell participating in urban assault exercises at the Army’s Joint Readiness Training Center at Ft. Polk.

Fisher is survived by his wife, Tara, and a stepson, Christopher, both of Clarksville, Tenn.

He had been stationed at Ft. Campbell since February 1999.

The accident remains under investigation.

The 101st Airborne is a rapid deployment, air assault division.
