And the Key to Victory This Week Is ...
I see where the Thousand Oaks City Council awarded UCLA football Coach Bob Toledo the key to the city. I didn’t realize that mediocrity was acknowledged with such rewards. My first inclination would be to lock my doors.
I look forward to watching USC Coach Pete Carroll get the key to California on Nov. 23 and the key to Indiana on Nov. 30.

Fifty years ago, when I was a boy, I asked my dad which was the best team in college football. His answer was, “On which Saturday?”
Nothing has changed. Anyone who follows I-AA football knows how great real playoffs and real champions are. Sometimes a lower seed is the best team. With greed and ignorance running I-A, we’ll never know who the best team really is. Each year there are half a dozen teams that have a legitimate shot to win but are not even considered. There will never be a Cinderella story while the NCAA (read corporate money) sends out the invitations.
Sorry USC.
