George Foreman, who was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in October, has purchased a furnished Malibu townhome for close to its asking price of $2.3 million.

Foreman, who lives in Houston, bought the beachfront pied-a-terre as a place to stay when visiting the L.A. area, where one of his 10 children attends college. All of his sons are named George.

The townhouse has two master suites in 2,800 square feet and an attached two-car garage. The unit, built in 1990, is on three levels, each with a balcony.

Foreman, an Olympic gold medalist who knocked out Joe Frazier to win the heavyweight championship in the early ‘70s, lost the title to Muhammad Ali and left boxing in 1977. In 1994, after founding the Back Door to the World ministry in Texas, Foreman won the heavyweight title again at age 45.

Since then, Foreman has become a familiar TV face, endorsing cooking appliances and appearing on HBO as a boxing analyst. Salton, manufacturer of George Foreman’s Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine, bought the former boxing champ’s name and image for use in promoting the grill and other kitchen products in late 1999 for about $137.5 million in cash and stock.

“George Foreman’s Guide to Life: How to Get Up Off the Canvas When Life Knocks You Down,” a Simon & Schuster book, is due to be published in January.

Dan Urbach of A.M. Realty in Pacific Palisades and Foreman’s attorney, Henry Holmes of the Santa Monica law firm of Greenberg Traurig, represented Foreman. Carl Straub of Coldwell Banker’s Malibu West office had the listing.
