Sea Creature Deaths Prompt Study of Water

From Times Wire Reports

Several species of sea life were found dead at Santa Barbara Harbor over the last several days, leading wildlife officials to examine the waters for toxins.

Among the dead were halibut, perch, turbot and rockfish. Biologists also found dead lobster and two types of crabs.

A preliminary test of the water ruled out domoic acid and red tide. Runoff from the storms two weeks ago had been suggested as a possible cause, but it was ruled out because the deaths began occurring only over the weekend, an official said.
